Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin On

So my Read-a-Thon progress is… nothing to speak of. I’m making my way through Honey Pie. I’m about half way through but not near finishing. Other than that almost no reading has gotten done. I’m off the next two days so maybe I can actually read.

Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee

As part of the Read-a-Thon, they asked us to name our favorite female character from a book. Mine would probably be Morgaine from the Mists of Avalon. I read this book ages ago and I am just now reading it again, this time as an audiobook. I think what I loved about Morgaine is how strong she is in the face of everything that happens in the story. Mists of Avalon tells from when Morgaine is a toddler, before Arthur’s birth, until Arthur’s death. She takes on a lot of challenges but manages to remain in control. She also is a character that is not cut and dried, good/bad. She’s compelling.

And talking about this makes me want to rewatch the movie they made of this book, even though it wasn’t very good.

You’re the One That I Want

I wanted to share some recommended summer reading. These are books I have read and enjoyed and, although they’re good for all times of the year, summer is as good a time as any to read them.

Must Have Summer Reads:

One of my favorite, sweet romances. The Irish setting is just lovely.

A fresh, original version of a classic tale. Plus I met the author and she was a sweetheart

Typically considered an all-time favorite romance by many. Cute story that I read on vacation a few years ago.

Tear jerker. Seriously.

1920’s New Orleans, feminism, ghosts, and a timeless love story.

Southern-fried magical realism. One of my all time favorites

Recently read this and loved it so much I started gathering up the author’s backlist.

I want to crawl inside this book and live there. Prague makes for such a fantastic setting.
